Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leadership and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday hit out at PM Modi, claiming the Indian Premier has foreign backing behind his climb to power and is still retaining their title thanks to such backing. As part of this he challenged the Prime Minister to take part in an open debate.
Writing on social media site X, the Congress leader blamed the prime minister for misleading the country. In his post he claimed that Modi has foreign backing helping him stay in power. He also questioned how the Indian financial system was controlled by foreign interests as well as the part international social media platforms have to play.
“He became PM with foreign help. Still staying in power due to foreign help. Our financial system is being controlled and supported by foreign interests. PM is also supported by foreign social media,” the Gandhi wrote in his post.
He did not specify any form of proof or evidence to back his claims but does add a new point of contention between the two parties. This time round the opposition leader is demanding that the Prime minister comes back and defend himself.
Challenge To Participate In Open Debate With PM
As part of his debate he called out PM Modi, asking him to join in on whatever platform. Adding that it can happen whenever and that the Prime Minister has avoided suchisations.
However he came back saying that he would not uphold this challenge due to Modi being scared of what he knows.
As of the evening of Monday, it appears that no response from the Prime Minister has been made public.
This issue of foreign influences has come to the forefront due to the remarks made by Gandhi focusing on how he is claiming that Modi has foreign backing and foreign interests influence the Indian financial system.
Responds To PMs Speech On National Unity Day
His remarks are in response to the Prime Minister’s recent speech to mark National Unity day. Delivered on the 31st October, the speech took place in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat and contained warnings against interest that aim to split the nation.
During the speech the Prime Minister made criticisms towards the opposition, saying they are becoming increasingly obstructionist. Whilst not mentioning any party, he talked about attempts to divide and tarnish the nations image.
The Prime Minister voiced concerns that social media are being used to circulate misinformation. He said social media were creating “misinformation” and to attempt to undermine India’s reputation. The PM asked what was going on with those who had been having secret meetings with foreigners as well as asking “who are supporting those who are working against our interests?”
As a result of this Gandhi focused the attention back onto the foreign backing claimed to have influence on the Prime minister. These remarks appear to be a direct political response to the concerns raised.
Clash Of Political Views As Foreign Influence Comes Into Play
The current clash comes after the ongoing differences between the Congress and BJP. Modi mentioned threats and impacts of interests aiming to divide the nation whilst Gandhi critiques Modi’s relationship to foreign interests. Both sides have telling each other that it is not in the best interest of the nation.
Throughout his speech Modi has focussed on those aiming to split the nation but the Congress leader has questioned Modi’s part in the backing from other countries. Both sides are making criticisms with regards to the interests of the nation.
Overall, these remarks and accusations do not contain proof or evidence. They are overall just political claims made onto the leader of Congress. There was no mention of any specific government, organisation or companies. It has been claimed but there is no evidence presented.
However the challenge for an open debate something new. It has been emphasised that the Congress Leader is willing to have an open discussion. No response from the PM yet.
Both sides have been making claims about each other with regards to what they are doing nationally so this will likely create more discussion. The main issue came from the accusation of Gandhi that the PM is receiving backings from foreign sources and wants a response from him in an open debate.
